How to use Hygge to Organize Your Home or Office

Hygge has become a huge way of life recently. And when you look at it, how could it not. When we think of Hygge (pronounced hyoo·guh), we think of coziness, comfort and peace. According to the Oxford Dictionary Hygge means a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being. So how can you adapt this in your home or work. I’m going to tell you how you can use Hygge to organize your home of office.

Now most people would say you need to go out and buy blankets and candles to make your home have that Hygge feel. I’m not totally convinced of that. Although I do have blankets everywhere because I’m naturally cold all the time. Too many candles makes my head hurt and where is the organization if all you do is buy more stuff?

So the first thing I suggest is to organize what you have first. Go through each room. If you haven’t used it in a year or two, why do you still have it? Does it have sentimental value? Or are you keeping it for another reason? The start of getting organize with hygge is to get rid of the clutter. Go through everything and make sure you still need it.

Once you declutter your home of office. This is where the organization comes in. Make sure everything has a place. If it doesn’t, maybe you need to decide if you really need that item. Less is more in some cases. I like to use cute baskets to organize items in my closets. Since we usually buy multiple bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I want to make sure everything has a place and still looks neat and tidy.

The same goes for your office. Schedule in a time to go through all those filing cabinets, drawers, and cupboards. Declutter that too. Make sure you don’t throw away any important documents or items. Then, Make sure everything had a home. Finally, make it neat and orderly so you can find it later.

When you are done then you can go through and think of things that make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Now I know you can’t be as comfortable as you want to be at work, but you can add little touches, such as an essential oil diffuser. I have one on my desk and the sent of cedar relaxes me in the winter and oranges in the summer. Not exactly sure why, but they are comforting to me. Just a little touch to make me feel more relaxed.
