Every traveler need the basics for their trip, but for creatives; there are specific things they need or want to take with them. Each creative has their own specifics they want when they travel, but there are some things that all creatives can use.
Most creatives can take their work with them and do it anywhere they go as long as they pack what they need. Prepping for travel and having a plan is a great way to get started on your creative endeavors while traveling and sticking with your goals.
Basic Essentials
With every trip, there are basic items you need to live day to day while traveling. Those basics are things you use daily, they are necessities.
- Suitcase
- Pants/shorts
- Shirts/sweaters
- Undergarments
- Jacket
- Socks
- Sandals
- Shoes
These seem like pretty self explanatory items and they are, but there have been times where someone forgets something, like the entire bag full of close or underwear and yes, I’m speaking from experience. Not me of course, but you really need to double check children sometimes. Don’t forget anything else that is trip/weather specific, such as hats, scarves, gloves, etc.
Documents
All trips need some sort of document whether your ID, passport, or other documents specific to the trip.
- Passport
- Tickets
- Reservations
- Itinerary
- Etc
Of course there could be some specific documents related to your trip that you’ll need. Those will need to be added to your list and made sure they make it into your bag. You don’t want to arrive at your destination and realize you don’t have your reservation paperwork.
Toiletries
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Lotion
- Toothpaste/Toothbrush
- Shower Gel/Soap
- Deodorant
- Makeup
- Sunscreen
- Bug Spray
- Razor
- Shave cream
- Loofa
- Etc.
Again, these are pretty self explanatory and you may not use all of these or have more to add. These items are there for your self-care and as clothing, are essential to a trip.
First Aid
- Medicines (headache, stomach, fever, pain, prescriptions, vitamins)
- Band-aids
- Hand sanitizer
- Antiseptic
- Gauze
- Epipen
- Inhaler
- Blood Sugar Meter
- Etc.
Of course, you’ll not need all of these things, but it will get you thinking about what you really need. Keep in mind anything specific to any medical conditions or health issues that have specific items that need to be brought with.
Travel Items
These items are those that will help make your trip run smoothly and efficiently. Organization is the key to great planning and great planning is the key to an awesome trip.
Travel Planner
There is nothing better when traveling than having a plan and all your information in one place. This travel planner is perfect for any trip! From packing list, budget, accommodations, research and more; you have enough pages here to plan five amazing trips!
Backpack
A great backpack may not be hard to find, but it does come in handy for traveling. Ones like the backpack below offers multiple pockets and storage for all your essential items and tools. There is even a charge port to keep all your things going. (Note: you need to add a power bank to the inside to make it functional)
Battery Pack/Phone Charger
Speaking of power banks, you really should never leave home without one. Whether it’s a smaller one just used to power your phone or a larger one to power everything. A power bank comes in handy when you’re out and need that extra juice to keep things going for a bit longer. As mentioned above, it’s perfect with a backpack with a compatible charge port so you never lose power.
Even better is when you have a solar powered one to keep your things going even longer! Just keep it in the sun for continued power.
Looking for something with even more power? The HALO Bolt can charge your car, game system, phone laptop and more. Worried just about anything could happen, this is a great battery pack to have for all situations.
Power Adapter (International outlets)
If you travel longer distances and need to plug things in, it could get difficult when international outlets are not the same as your home ones. These international all-in-one adaptors are great for when you need to plug things in that have different outlets than the ones your products come with.
Leather Passport Case
This may not be completely necessary, but it’s a great way to keep all your important documents in one place, especially with COVID regulation in some areas. There are plenty of space for your passport, cash, cards, a small pen, and more.
Comfort Items
These items are things that are there for your comfort on your trip, whether to keep you occupied or physically more comfortable.
Noise – Canceling Headphones
Wireless noise cancelling headphones are amazing when you need a moment to yourself. Listen to music, watch your favorite show, or just put them on for peace and quiet. These noise canceling headphone are a great addition to your trip for those times when you just need a moment away from the noise.
Neck Travel Pillow
Need a bit more comfort? Trying to get a nap in while you fly or drive, but you just can’t get comfortable. You are not a kid anymore. Trust me, I look at my kids when we travel and wonder how they don’t have so much pain after waking from the positions they fall asleep in. You need something a bit better to get that much needed sleep/nap. Try this travel pillow on your next trip!
Reusable Water Bottle
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t bring along a bottle of some sort. You get thirsty, it only makes sense that you bring a long a water bottle that will last. This one will keep things cold for up to 24 hours and hot for up to 12. So whether you bring water, coffee, tea or some other drink, it will be with you and ready to drink at the appropriate temperature for quite a while. Why not get one that works for you?
E-reader/Books
I don’t know about you, but I love reading and having something to read on a long trip is a great way to pass the time. With a kindle, you won’t have to carry around physical books (unless you want to, I won’t judge 🙂 ). Have thousands of book titles at your fingertips just waiting to be read!
Creative Items
These items are centered toward gaining memories, entertainment, and the creative spirit. Whether you are an artist, gamer, writer, photographer or hobbiest, you may want to bring things related to your interest and career.
Camera, Bag, and Tripod
Everyone has their phones nowadays and we generally take pictures and create memories with them, but if you are looking for something more professional, I would suggest researching more on cameras to see what would fit you the best. Some just like the feel of an actual camera over their phone when taking pictures and that is totally awesome.
Now, I can admit that my camera skills are not the best and I would prefer to not recommend something that you would never touch, so I will leave the research on these items to you. I wish you the best in your photography endeavors and perhaps we’ll see your work sometime if you’d like to share!
Durable Notebooks/Journals
Those that love to write or journal probably already have their favorite notebooks and bring them with wherever they go and this is fantastic! You may also be the type whose always looking for more to add to their collection, like us! These are great journals and notebooks for the traveler!
Pencil Case with Assorted Writing Utensils
Whether you are carrying a little or as many as 200 pencils, pens, colors, or highlighters; these are perfect travel companions for a writer or artist. Bring as little or as much as you want in these compact cases.
Stationary/Envelope/Stamps
If you’ll be traveling for a longer period of time or if you want to send snail mail to yourself to read when you get home, having some stationary will make the experience even more enjoyable. Want to send your friend a message while on vacation or send notes home to yourself about something you want to write about. Get creative with it and have fun!
Travel Paints/Brushes/Canvas
There are many ways for you to bring your art with you. Whether in a case or a simple color pallet and sketchbook, you can continue your painting no matter where you’re going!
Dyvicl Foldable Watercolor Paint Set With Brushes
Extras
There is always room for a little extra like a small game to pass the time or a small collection of inspiring items or images. You never know when you’re going to need some down time or encouragement.
Travel Games
Everyone needs something to pass the time on road trips, or even on planes. There are even plenty of verbal games you can play like “I Spy” or “I’m thinking of”. Why not find something everyone can play or at least something the kids can do so they are not asking the dreaded, “Are we there yet?”. Seriously, has anyone ever said this and meant it or is it just in shows? Just wondering.
Inspiration
Besides gaining inspiration from the places you’re going, sometimes you have items and images that inspire you no matter where you are. Using something originally intended for others has now created it to be multifunctional and I love things like that!
Final Thoughts
Trips and vacations are meant to get away from all the hustle and bustle of life for a bit and relax, rejuvenate. While some use it for that reason (or mostly for that reason), others use it as inspiration for their work; a different perspective or scenery.
However you use a road trip or vacation, keep in mind what you are going there for and be prepared. So for your next trip, what will you be bringing along? Let us know in the comments!
