There is nothing like getting on the open road, while you travel to a new destination and just enjoying the ride, but what happens when you’re in need of some your time. Time to read, time to get some work done on the go; how do you set up a creative atmosphere while on the road?
It’s definitely not easy while traveling to set up a creative atmosphere, but it’s definitely doable as long as those you’re with understand that you are going to need that time even while on your trip. Have a discussion before you leave and remember to bring your Creative Atmosphere bag so you are prepared.
There are many different areas you can set up a creative space, even ones you may not believe is possible. Hopefully, I can give you some insight for your next trip.
Travel Atmosphere Types
Here are a few areas where you can set up your creative atmosphere while traveling. You may be surprised at what you can accomplish once you put your creativity into the area.
Travel as a passenger
Traveling as a passenger can have its perks as long as you are not the navigator. Though small in size, you are still able to create an atmosphere that can work for you. Whether in a car, on a train, in a plane or boat; you can create an atmosphere that can work for you.
People have found great things to make you comfortable on longer rides. Travel pillows, noise canceling headphones, a nice drink and a snack can go a long way to creating a comfy work or reading atmosphere as you are whisked away to a new destination.
Driving or Hiking Rest Stops
There’s always time to stop for a few moments of rest from the drive or walk to enjoy what you love. It’s not always ideal, but rest areas have gotten quite picturesque in some areas. Take advantage of that and use it to create your own atmosphere for a few much needed minutes outside the car or a rest from walking.
This is where a bag or backpack with the proper things you need for your creative atmosphere comes in handy. A small blanket, snacks, a drink and a good book or laptop to work would be great to put in your creative atmosphere bag.
Campfires and Hammocks
Camping is a family favorite pastime for most and the stories that come from their time together are some of the best, but what about those times you really need to yourself. Or perhaps you could share it with the kiddos if you are reading. There are times when sharing can create some fantastic memories. So pack a book you can read as a family.
You can get really creative here and use some battery operated lights, a hammock, a small pillow or pillows if needed, and a maybe a mosquito net or citronella candles. Those little rug-rats are so annoying!
You can use the campfire as part of your atmosphere if you so desire. S’mores are a great treat, just keep some wipes around to keep the sticky, gooey marshmallow from your work/book and fingers.
One Room or Two?
If you’re alone, this would be a no brainer, but if not, that’s a different story. Having a room a way from home could make all the difference in your creative atmosphere. Not that I’m saying you need more space away from those you’re traveling with, but if you needed it for a while, it could come in handy.
Here you may need to plan out your time to where you have the room to yourself. Or incorporate those noise canceling headphones and some music to get the atmosphere you desire.
If you have more than one room to your suite, it will be a bit easier to accomplish. You could set up that room to your liking and keep it closed off so no one bothers you.

Final Thoughts
You can set up a creative atmosphere anywhere you like. I’m not saying it won’t take some work with some areas, but if you plan ahead and pack the right items, you’ll be able to set up the creative atmosphere you need no matter where you are.
