Log Cabin

It’s beginning to get colder and we in the north are preparing for the colder months. Thoughts of pumpkin spice, hot chocolate, pine, warmth, and a cozy couch come to mind. A Log cabin also come to mind as a warm, cozy, pine scented location for a much needed break or retreat for work.

Whether in your backyard, or in a room of your house, setting up your log cabin atmosphere can be easy and you can add your own touches to make it even more enjoyable.

Now, let’s hit on a few areas and you can see what I mean:

Away From Home

If you are able to vacation or retreat to an actual log cabin, this will be a snap to set up. You would just need to take things that would give you the cozy, warm atmosphere you’re looking for. Things like hot chocolate, candles with your favorite winters scent, blankets, etc would be a good start.

If you are making your log cabin atmosphere away from home, you can provide this in a few different ways. Some pavilions or even sheds, if closed on all sides with doors are close by, you can definitely set up your atmosphere there adjusting for your log cabin atmosphere theme. If there isn’t a building nearby or in your backyard, you can still create the atmosphere in your backyard by setting up near some trees or fire pit.

Sights

Log cabins have, at first a cold, dark feeling until you light up the place and start a warm fire in the fireplace. When people thing of log cabins they may think of something north in the winter snow. Though when you walk inside, you would see the log walls; warm, cozy blankets, a fireplace waiting to be lit and low lights with few to no electronics.

Sounds

Not many sounds eco through a log cabin as most don’t have much that make noise. The crackle of the fire, the howl of the wind (depending on the weather) and the occasional scurry of an animal are the most common sounds. Whatever is additional would be whatever activity you are engaging in. If you are working on a project, it could be the rustling of the pages, the tapping of a keyboard (if you have laptop), or the turning of pages.

To gain the sounds for your log cabin atmosphere, there are plenty of apps that will play the sounds of a fire or nature.

Smells

The main scent that fills your nose when you think of a log cabin is pine. You can also catch the scent of burning wood, hot chocolate if your making it or any food you cook. You can find many candles, portable incense burners or defusers that are perfect for creating the scent you’re looking for.

Food/Drink

The type of food and drink here will completely depend on you. Whether you stop somewhere on the way to your location or bring it from home, these will be completely up to you.

Hot chocolate, apple cider, or coffee are great options here, adding different flavoring for a more customized drink!

Home/Backyard Cafe

Creating a log cabin atmosphere at home may not be as easy to accomplish. If you don’t haves prebuilt building, such as a shed or shelter to use, you may have to improvise.

Inside

Now, if you are staying in, you could create your log cabin atmosphere, but you’ll have to get a bit creative. If you have the gumption, time, and materials, you could build a portion of one in your home, but if not you can use the corner of a room to create your atmosphere.

To set up, you could create your cabin with wood and a corner or portion of a wall. You would only build half or small portion with a seat or to make it easier, just use the corner. Add a comfy chair, some pillows to make it comfortable and anything else you want, a small bookshelf, a mini fridge, string lights, pictures, etc.

This is your space, so add what you want and make it fit your style.

Outside

Your backyard is a great place for you to set up your at-home cabin. If you have a shed or small building you can convert, you can create a great log cabin atmosphere.

Creating this atmosphere outside may prove to be a bit more difficult, but not impossible. If you have a fire pit or outdoor fireplace, this would be perfect. If you are ambitious, you can erect log cabin wall sections to make it feel more like a cabin. It doesn’t have to be a full on cabin, you are just trying to create the atmosphere of one. Think movie set here.

If you’re looking for something minimal, you only need your fire pit, a chair, perhaps a blanket and whatever it is that you would like to do: Read a book, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, or work on a project in the peace you’ve just created.

You can add pillows, a rug, chairs or small couch, curtains, or paint to create the perfect atmosphere you are looking for.

Finishing Touches

Once you’ve decided how you want your at-home log cabin, you get to add any finishing touches you wish. Add some lights for an evening atmosphere, a cooler for easy access to food and drinks, or pillows for a more relaxed atmosphere. You could also add music, a small bookshelf, pictures, or any other items you feel would fit your atmosphere.

The possibilities are endless for this unique backyard setting.
