Evaluate
After a week or two of starting your self-care routine, evaluate whether this is the right self-care routine for you. Ask yourself, does it fit well with your current routine? How do you feel after your routine? Are you still stressed/tired? If you are, then try something different. There is no shame in changing things up to meet your individual needs, everyone is different, and that’s what makes us all uniquely beautiful.
Use the Sandwich Method
Using the sandwich method, incorporate similar self-care elements within your normal routine. Make sure the self-care elements are compatible with your routine. If, however, you want to go for a jog, incorporating it into your lunch break may not be a good idea. You would be sweaty and smelly when you return to work, no one wants that. If you need extra time, wake up a little earlier. I know, it’s tough, but you will be thankful you did it. You are more awake and your body will feel more energized to start the day.
Recognize your success
Praise your successes. You have achieved something you thought would be extremely hard, and there’s no harm in celebrating your accomplishments. That doesn’t mean go out and get a pizza if you’re losing weight because that would defeat the purpose of all your hard work.
Have an accountability buddy
It is so helpful to have someone there to encourage you to keep going when all you want to do it quite. Find someone that believes you can achieve the goals you set for yourself and make sure you communicate at least once a week if not more. My sister and I talk almost every day, encouraging each other when we need it most.
Tips
Here are some tips to help you achieve your goals for your self-care.
- Stay hydrated
- Get enough sleep
- Start your day with something pleasant
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Detox from technology
- Read a good book
These things will make you feel so much better throughout your day. Therefore, your body, mind and soul will thank you.
And as always…
