These are activities that can be done at the table and don’t take much effort to complete. So if you want to do a quick, with minimal materials, these are for you!

Christmas Wish List

The perfect activity to do when you have the one person who is hard to shop for. Make a goal to list five, ten, or even fifteen things that you would like to get for Christmas. When you are done, everyone has a list of things. Gifts others would like for ideas. It’s a win-win.

Letters to Santa

One to do with the kids, letters to Santa can be fun and entertaining, depending on what your little ones write. Just for fun, join in and write a letter Santa as well. Why not?

Send Holiday Cards

Everyone, well almost everyone, loves getting snail mail addressed to them. Send out cards to catch up with your family and friends. Young ones absolutely love getting mail, so why not bring them some cheer this season.

Holiday Craft Nights

There are so many crafts you could do for the evening. Check out Pinterest, do a google search, ask a friend and I’m sure they’ll have one they did that you would love. Pick a few and spend the day or evening creating some new masterpieces.

Holiday Bucket List

Our family creates one of these every summer, but we should do one for the holiday seasons. Write out all the fun things you would like to accomplish this season and mark them off as you do them. It can be as small as having hot chocolate or as big as traveling to see ice sculptures. Whatever you want to do, put it on there and see how many things you can mark off by Spring time or the first of the year. Your choice!

Family Goal Setting for New Year

Speaking of the New Year, why not create some family goals to achieve for the coming year. It’s a great activity to do as a family. You can each create your own and then create some family goals. What a way to bond and stay on track for the coming year.

These activities may require a bit more planning to pull off. Things you may need to purchase ahead of time or plan ahead of time.

Movie Night with Themed Treats

We do this once in a while with my sister and her kids that way we split costs, but the kids love it at any age. We’ll even invite the them to the show in a manner that relates to the movie. For example, we did Treasure Planet and wrote letters as Jim inviting them on the adventure of a lifetime. Then we made snack the correlated with the movie. Pinterest has amazing ideas for nearly any movie you choose. Plan yours today!

Game Night

This is something we do often when my husband is off work. We each choose a game and play until we either get tired of playing or until we’ve made it through each game that was chosen. Some games are longer than others and need more time, so this could turn into an all day thing if you start in the morning.

Book Day

We’ve also done this and enjoyed it. We’ll choose a series or single book and read it one evening. No electronics allowed. It’s a great time to pair with hot chocolate and a treat. You can do this activity whenever you like to continue a series even through to spring and summer if you like.

DIY Advent Calendar

Again Pinterest is a great resource when wanting to do anything DIY. They have plenty of posts on different advent calendars you can create with your children or for couples. It’s a great family activity to do daily during the holiday season once it’s set up.

Outside Activities

If you enjoy the outdoors, here are some things you can do to get out of the house.

Decorate

If you decorate for the holidays, whether inside or out, you can assign tasks, take suggestions and create a holiday display that is solely your family’s. Have fun and use what you have or design something new.

Stocking Stuffer Shopping

One of the things that gets put to the wayside sometimes. You can get everyone involved and shop for things that would fit in each other’s stockings or at least allow the family to give suggestions for things. You never know when you’ll get a great idea.

Outside activities

This is anything that is naturally down outside during the colder months. This would include skiing, building snowmen, sledding, caroling, ice skating, and more.

Kitchen Activities

Last, but not least, here are something things that require the kitchen to complete.

Holiday Drink Day

There are plenty of holiday drinks out there other than hot chocolate to try, so spend a day trying something new. If you are older, you can even try some special ones for you ‘of age’ peeps. If you all want to try the same one, make some virgin versions and some non-virgin ones. See, everyone is happy!

Cookies/Gingerbread House

A staple in most houses is baking cookies or building a gingerbread house. Buy a kit or build your own. Make some cookies to combine with movie or book night and you’ve got a great activity where you can relax and enjoy the spoils of your hard work.
