8 Ways to Have Fun at the Office

The office can get pretty boring and lonely in your space. So how do you liven it up and have a bit of fun in the office? Well, I’m gonna tell you! Whether you’re at home or your office is in another building, you can do things to make your office space a fun atmosphere to be in.

Why Should Work Be Fun?

Work, by definition, is to focus on the required activity until complete. While this is true, having some fun and free time to laugh and relieve stress can improve productivity, allowing employees to destress. Even in a home office, it is important to have fun and take breaks. If not, stress can build up, frustration can creep in and productivity flounders.

Below are ways to bring a bit of fun to your office space, warding off stress, fatigue, frustration, and more.

Office Fun Activities

Guest Lunch

Lunch with a friend, family member, or coworker in person or online can give you that human connection your mind needs during your day. You can also use this time to connect with family, your kids, and your husband. Why not? You learn about them (eventually) or you can play a short game. Something fun to have a good time and spend quality time with those you care about.

We love decorating and creating an encouraging atmosphere. so much so that we’ve got a bank of ideas for you to look through as themes and ideas. Rearrange your furniture for a different perspective. Use seasons for a pop of color. Holidays to get into the spirit of said holiday, or add a few pieces that compliment your own personality.

Your office is your space, arrange (if you can) and decorate it as you see fit. You work there and spend a bit of time sitting in that chair. Make the enjoyable, encouraging, and inspiring.

Who doesn’t love having handy things to each or drink close by so they don’t have to move to ease the craving or get some much-needed water? I know I love having our mini fridge within arm’s reach so I can get water and a snack whenever I feel peckish.

Small (or large) vending machines, dispensers, and unique jars are a great way to add some fun to the space and organize your drinks and snacks

Games

Games are a great break from your everyday run of the office life. Everyone has at least one game they play on their phone these days. Some you can even play with others. My husband and I play through iMessages while he’s on break at work. It’s nice because most will keep your turn open until you’re able to take the message and your turn.

Other games such as cards or video games, may be lonely, but if you’re competing for your personal best, it could be quite entertaining. You could also play with your lunch guest from above and set it aside when the lunch is over to continue another day.

Mini Coffee/Drink Bar

Another thing you can do that may not completely be fun, but is definitely beneficial if you like your coffee or other favorite drink handy, is a minibar. Keep those things that allow you to have your favorite drink at any time for a quick break

Things that Make You Laugh

There are many things that you can use that can give you a quick laugh when you need one. There is a doll that is specifically made for you to take your frustration out on. Soft so no one gets hurt, but sturdy enough that if you wack it against something, it won’t ruin it at all.

There are also plenty of buttons that say specific phrases that can provide some comic relief for you and others. Get them in the voice of your favorite character or one that provides a variety of phrases as you push the button.

Other ideas are desk toys. Ones that provide a quick break, working with your hands, or mini sports like bowling or golf may interest you.

Music

I always have music playing when I’m working. Upbeat and catchy tunes can break up the monotony of the day, put a smile on your face, sing along, and brighten your day.

Creating a playlist for specific activities or just one that plays in your office space can get you in the mood to work or keep you relaxed as you work on your projects.
