Forge On… Keep Striving, Moving, Climbing!
There are times in our lives when things feel as though they could not possibly get any worse; but then you spoke to soon and they forge on. Or you feel like your day could not get any better. Then one event creates a catastrophic down turn of events.
We experienced that about a month ago when our family went walking our dog. My husband and I woke to realize our children let us sleep in. By the time we came down stairs they had eaten, got dressed and had finished all of their chores with no arguments. We had been taking family walks daily since my husband started second shift and that day was not different. As we walked I thought nothing could ruin this day, it started out so well, but I was wrong. So wrong.
My Heart Broke…
The events that followed created a series of events that I cannot discuss without bursting into tears again. Needless to say we were forced to give up our beloved pet which tore our family apart emotionally. Our beloved dog has been apart of our family for the past five years. Nothing like that event had ever occurred before. To this day we do not understand what caused her to react the way she did. The past few days I’m receiving Facebook memories of when we brought her home. The video we made with her first toy and watching them breaks my heart.
I don’t tell you this story to bring you down, but to give you an idea of what I have personally faced and am working through. The need to forge on, to keep moving through the badlands is essential. To keep moving to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. We were able to take our beloved dog to the rescue in which we adopted her from. They have agreed to hold her for a period of time. If we can move, they will allow us to take her back.
If after a period of time (unspecified), we are unable to move, they will move forward to adopt her out. She is a sweet malamute/husky mix with a personality all her own. We have two young children that adore her and she protected. Unfortunately, selling our home and moving has become a challenge since our home is in need of work. (Another down hill tumble)
We Tried…
Although, I am very emotional about it, my husband and I sat down to plan how we could move or even if it was possible to sell our home as is and still come out with money to spare. To bring us further down we were forced to create a plan to eliminate debt as fast as possible in order to be able to move with the enough to purchase another home. Our plan will take 3-5 years to complete. We do not see the rescue holding our beloved mix that long. Though we will still try to do the best we can to move and return her home, things just aren’t looking up. We hit the bottom when we realized that and there is only one way to go from here: up.
Even with the lose of our husky mix, we created a determination to forge ahead… to climb out of the drowning pool and create a plan to move forward. We may not be able to bring our husky mix home, but we know that she will be adopted into another good home with people who will love her as much as we did.
Responses
With the time it took to overcome this downward spiral and move forward, things around our home were neglected. Our garden, which we expanded this year suffered. Some of our vegetables are growing, but the weeds have over grown it along with our flowerbeds (which go around our entire home). We have begun to weed our garden and will replant the ones that did not make it. We may have a late harvest on some, but we will still gain a harvest.
Our Goals and Plans
My goals for this last month were to publish two books. One I have been working on for quite some time. With all that occurred and the healing that needed to take place, I failed to get both books published. I did get the second book of my series out and I am close to getting that long await book out, but it will take a bit more time.
My husband is doing all he can to raise the money for us to move. He has been working twelve hour days and will be worked the 4th for extra money. If there is a way we can move quicker we are determined to do it. We even canceled our subscriptions to extra items. We never did have cable or dish, but we canceled his WWE Network subscription and our Netflix subscription as well as our Amazon Prime subscription. Now we can get Amazon Prime back when all is said and done, but for now we will use the time to spend with our family or being productive instead of in front of our TV.
Forge on
Even though we experienced a traumatic event, we are moving forward and trying our best to remedy the situation. We are not be able to bring our husky mix home, but we will be moving forward with the memories we gained while she was here.
There never seems like a bright side to situations like that, but I encourage you to find it. Before that event happened, we were just riding the days not focused on our dreams enough to get us to where we want to be. Since, we have created a plan that is hung where we can see it every day. We can look at it and cross off the things we accomplish in the journey to move and possibly get our husky mix back. The reward will be enormous if we are able to achieve our goals. So, even though things may look bleak, there my be something hiding beneath waiting… to force you to forge ahead, to move you forward.
What are you striving to achieve? What is holding you back? How can you move forward and forge ahead? Have you had an experience similar to ours and realized it may have happened for you to achieve another goal?
