Bullet Journaling: Part 4 – Themes
Welcome to Bullet Journaling: Part 4 – Themes where we will discuss what a theme is, if it’s necessary, and what types you can use, if you so choose. I have to say creating a theme for the month is one of my favorite things to do in my bullet journal. Now, choosing one, that’s the hard part. Sometimes I get inspiration from the web and sometimes I get it from my family. Once I choose my theme, the fun part begins and the creative juices flow.
In Bullet Journaling: Part 1 we talked about all the materials you could use for your bullet journal and some basics of bullet journaling. For Instance, we discussed materials, journals, and items you will need to create your layouts and collections.
In Bullet Journaling: Part 2 we first discussed the different logs you can use to keep track of important dates and holidays. Secondly, we discussed the Key and Index of your bullet journal as well.
In Bullet Journaling: Part 3 we first discussed my explanation of the difference between collections and trackers, then I provided a list of some different Collections and Trackers you could use in your bullet journal, lastly we discussed how collections and trackers can keep you organized and the joy it brings.
What is a Bullet Journal theme?
A Bullet Journal theme is a reoccurring object, item, or character that you incorporate within the pages of your bullet journal. For Instance, if your theme was lemons, you would create a theme page with the month highlighted on it with lemons adorning the page. Now, the theme page isn’t the only place you incorporate lemons, you would incorporate lemons through all your calendar, weekly and daily pages for that month. You can also incorporate them within your collection and tracker pages.
How to choose a theme
Man, choosing a theme is probably the hardest part of creating a bullet journal. There are so many ideas to choose from. Animals, plants, characters, tv shows, music, wildlife, and so much more. I normally make a list of all the themes I would like to do and choose one that would go good with that month, or if I’m tired of using holidays for months I will throw it off and pick something totally random.
Do you have to use themes
There are many people who create bullet journals that love making a theme for there months, but there are also people who just want the bare minimum in there bullet journal and that’s ok too. You don’t have to have a theme at all if you don’t want too. I like creating in my bullet journal so I always choose a theme to go with the month I’m in. It helps to keep the months separated and keeps your creativity flowing.

If you are having a hard time finding a theme, here is a slideshow of some of the themes I have used. Most of them are Disney/Pixar, I’m obsessed. 🙂 You can tell which ones are my earlier themes I did in a composition notebook, which I do not recommend using markers in, they bleed through a lot, but I loved my themes when I first started so I added them in.
