6 Favorite After School Snacks Children will Love

The school year has started again not just for children, but some adults too, me included. Every day after school my children are coming home looking for their after school snacks. At first I would just send them to the fridgerator and tell them to have some fruit or vegetables. Well, after a while they didn’t want the same old things anymore. So, here are some of their favorite after school snacks.

Pizza Roll Ups

This quick bite size pizza rolls are perfect for the kids. They can even help out by making their own! Just lay out the ingredients and let the kids have at it. Just remind them that their eyes may be bigger than their stomachs and the dough will not hold well with a ton of ingredient in them.

Ingredients

1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls

Slices of peperoni

Cooked Italian Sausage

Shredded cheese of your chose (Cheddar and Mozzarella are great on pizza)

1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning

1 teaspoon pizza sauce

1 teaspoon parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Unroll the crescent rolls and separate into eight triangles. Place your choice of toppings along with the cheese, Italian seasoning and pizza sauce on each triangle. Roll up each triangle and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
  3. Place on a greased baking sheet 2 inches apart in a pre heated oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Enjoy with extra pizza sauce or garlic butter sauce!

Soft Pretzel

Pretzels are one of our favorite snacks, mostly because they are quick, and because they turn out soft and warm. With a little bit of salt and our favorite dipping sauce, these are ready in no time.

Ingredients

1/2 cup of your favorite dipping sauce (Ranch, Cheese, Mustard, etc…)

Large Soft Pretzels

Directions

  1. Cook Pretzels according to package instructions.
  2. Place dip in a small swerving bowl
  3. Enjoy!

Nachos

Having a variety of vegetables in the house is always good, but finding something to make with all those vegetables can be hard for an after school snack. We found that nachos a a great snack with lots of vegetables.

Ingredients

1 package of shredded cheddar cheese

1 10 oz can cheese sauce

2 packages of tortilla chips

2 tomoatoes

1 medium bell pepper

1 medium red pepper

4 green onions

1/2 can slice olives, drained

1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup taco sauce or salsa

1/2 cup lettuce

1 lb hamburger

1 package taco seasoning

Directions

  1. In a pan, cook hamburger until brown and drain the grease.
  2. Add taco seasoning and a tablespoon of water, mix.
  3. In a sauce pan heat cheese sauce until warm.
  4. Arrange chips on individual plates
  5. Top with taco meat, tomatoes, peppers, onions, olives, lettuce, sour cream and taco sauce or salsa.
  6. Enjoy!

Snack Mix

With snack mix, you can make a bunch and save it for quick snacks throughout the week. You can mix together your own favorite snack mix or use ours.

Ingredients

4 cups Corn Chex

4 cups Wheat Chex

2 cups Cheerios

1 package (10 ounce) Pretzel Sticks

2 cups Dry Roasted Peanuts

1 cup Almonds

1/2 cup Dried Cranberries

1 cup Butter, melted

1/4 Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Seasoning Salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees
  2. In a large bowl combine cereals, pretzels and nuts.
  3. Spread into two ungreased 13 X 9 cookie sheets.
  4. In a small bowl, combine Worcestershire sauce, butter, and seasoning salt.
  5. Pour Butter mixture over cereal mixture, toss to coat.
  6. Bake in oven for 20 minutes; tossing once.
  7. Add in Cranberries and let cool.
  8. Store in air tight container.

English Muffin Pizzas

These are another great small pizza snack that the kids can help with. Just gather all your ingredients and let the kids make their own mini pizzas.

Ingredients

Pizza Sauce

1 lb cooked, ground Italian sausage, drained.

Pepperoni (3-4 per pizza)

Shredded pizza cheese

1 package English Muffins

other chopped vegetables of your choice (peppers, olives, onions, garlic, pineapple, etc..)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. Separate English Muffins
  3. Spread a teaspoon of pizza sauce on one side of the English muffin. Top with your favorite toppings
  4. Place on a greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
  5. Enjoy you little mini pizza!

Apple Cartwheels

Apples are one of my favorite fruits, add some peanut butter and that’s a treat for me. My kids love these pinwheels looking apples with a sweet center.

Ingredients

1/4 cup Peanut Butter

4 medium Honey Crisp Apples

Rasians

mini chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Slice apples to look like wheels, remove center.
  2. Place peanut butter in center of apple slices.

Additional: you can mix the peanut butter with raisins or mini chocolate chips before placing in the middle of apple slices.
